Fun Diving for Beginners & Intermediates

Chatan Area

IMG_6649

The Chatan area primarily features beach-entry dive points from the shore, making it a popular destination for beginners and macro enthusiasts.
Sunabe (Miyagi Coast): Famous for dense fields of soft corals in vibrant reds, yellows, and purples that resemble a flower garden, offering a colorful underwater landscape to enjoy.
California Side: Heading offshore, you’ll find complex rock formations, roots, and crevasses (crevices), allowing you to enjoy the varied topography and schools of fish.
This translation keeps the natural flow while using common English diving terminology (e.g., “beach points,” “soft corals,” “crevasses”). The area is often collectively called Sunabe or Miyagi Coast in English dive guides, with “California Side” referring to a specific nearby section.

A wide range of macro creatures can be found here, including Nakamoto’s goby, pygmy seahorses, zebra gobies, fire gobies, frogfish, and nudibranchs, making this area especially popular among underwater photography enthusiasts.

There are also drop-off sites where larger marine life such as sea turtles and sharks can be seen, and with many dive points suitable for beginners to advanced divers, Manza offers something for everyone.

Fun Diving for Advanced Divers

Kerama Islands (including drift diving)

Divefit (29)

The Kerama Islands are located about 40 km west of Okinawa’s main island and can be reached in just 40 minutes by boat from Naha.
They are widely recognized as one of the world’s top-class diving destinations, and a true pride of Okinawa.

Divers can enjoy towering, dramatic underwater formations, pure white sandy bottoms, vibrant coral gardens, and the many tropical fish that call them home.
The Keramas are also famous for sea turtles, which captivate divers year-round.

Sea turtles can be seen throughout the year, while manta rays are occasionally spotted in summer, and in winter, divers may even encounter small macro life or see humpback whales from the boat.

For intermediate to advanced divers, we can also offer thrilling open-ocean drift dives.
Even if it is your first drift dive or you are not fully confident in your skills, our experienced guides will provide careful and attentive support to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Triangle (Advanced / Strong Current Area)

IMG_6662

Triangle, widely known among divers as the ultimate dive site of Okinawa’s main island, is a high-risk, high-reward dive point located in the open ocean southwest of the island, suitable for intermediate to advanced divers.
As there is no land shelter, boats are easily affected by wind and waves, making the conditions rough at times. Seasickness medication is strongly recommended.

All dives at this site are conducted as full drift dives.
The seabed lies at around 40 meters, and divers maintain neutral buoyancy while swimming in the mid-water (blue water) around artificial reefs.
When encountering large pelagic species and swimming against the current, short bursts of speed are required, so a good level of physical fitness is necessary.
Due to the deep average depth, dive times are relatively short, typically around 20 minutes.

This site is often described as having the highest fish density around Okinawa’s main island.
Schools of chevron barracuda and various shark species, including hammerhead sharks, can be targeted year-round.
Especially from March to May, tens of thousands of tamans (emperor fish) gather for spawning, creating an overwhelming and unforgettable underwater spectacle.

Aguni Island Expedition

Divefit (4)

Aguni Island, located about 1 hour and 30 minutes by dive boat from Naha, is universally recognized as the iconic Okinawa dive site — “When it comes to Okinawa diving, nothing beats the schools of bigeye trevally at Aguni.”
It is a must-visit destination for intermediate to advanced divers who love big fish, massive schools, and shimmering pelagic action.
Please be sure to check the participation requirements before joining.

The diving season runs from mid-April to the end of July. During this period, divers can witness the spectacular tornado-like formations of bigeye trevally.

In addition, divers may encounter huge schools of dogtooth tuna, blackfin and yellowtail barracuda, as well as all-star species such as Napoleon wrasse, giant trevally, and bumphead parrotfish.
From late April to early May, there is also a chance to see schools of hammerhead sharks, and from May to June, lucky divers may even encounter a whale shark.

Experience the excitement and create unforgettable diving memories at Aguni Island!

Tonaki Island Expedition

IMG_6663

Tonaki Island (≈75 min from Naha) is famous for its unreal “Tonaki Blue” visibility. Since there are no local dive shops, we run day-trip boats from Naha.
You can enjoy both relaxing scenic dives and exciting gamble dives.
The signature site “Guruku-no-Sachi (Goroku-no-Saki)” features one of the world’s most beautiful drop-offs — walls covered in pyramid butterflyfish and fairy basslets, perfect for photographers. “Shimajiri-saki Blue Hole” offers dramatic topography.
“Nakalma” is a rare flowing-sand gamble point: tiger sharks Aug–Nov, yellowfin tuna schools Nov–May, plus eagle rays, rare sharks, barracuda — you never know what will appear!

USS Emmons (Wreck)

IMG_6665

Lying at ≈40 m off Kouri Island (northern Okinawa), the 106 m-long WWII U.S. Navy minesweeper-destroyer USS Emmons is Okinawa’s largest and most impressive wreck.
The hull remains almost perfectly intact — an extremely valuable and advanced/technical wreck dive.
Only very experienced deep divers may join. Weather-dependent (possible only in calm south-wind conditions).
